How Much Radiation Does A Radiology Tech Get Exposed To Working?

Maybe you have considered getting into a career in Radiology or Radiography but are concerned about exposure to radiation while working which is a valid concern to have.

A friend of mine has been a radiographer for over 10 years. She even worked throughout her pregnancy up until a few days or a week before giving birth and never had any problems. Her daughter is now 8 and again no problems.

Radiologists wear film badges which take measurements of the radiation they are exposed to. They typically consistantly measure 0. If equipment is working properly and people are trained properly you should not be exposed to radiation.

Radiologists are out of the x-ray room when the exposures are taken, therefore they are not exposed to the radiation. Sometimes a radiologists does have to be in the room such as in fluoroscopy or surgery but in those instances they wear lead aprons to protect them. Techs who work in angio or cardiac cath labs are exposed to radiation but it's very small amount. If a worker follows the rules and there is no malfunctions in the equipment there really is no danger.
