Is being a Rediology Tech worth the risks of the job? Really, how hazardous is the job of radiology tech?

Radiology Tech jobs pay well because it is a hazardous job. I hear people say that all the time, and if equipment isn't safe and isn't properly maintained, if your not properly trained and following rules and safety guidelines it can be dangerous as radiation is harmful.

If equipment works properly and you and your coworkers are safe and properly trained it's actually very safe. Radiology Techs must actually wear a Geiger counter while working. These devices measure radiation levels and radiation exposure. If the levels reach a point that is too high and unsafe you are immediately sent home from work which unfortunately can mean loss in hours and pay. You are not allowed to return back to work until the counter reaches a certain predetermined level.

Hospitals typically follow the rules however some smaller doctors or clinics do not follow OSHA rules and have techs continue working past radiation limits. This is when the job is REALLY dangerous. You can limit your exposure by followin rules, standing behind sheilds, wearing vests, etc.

If you fail to be careful and follow rules you can be exposed to radiation which is very dangerous.
